Jamison Solar Farm begins soaking up the sun

Orangeburg, SC, May 28, 2019 – Alder Energy Systems LLC, a trusted South Carolina turnkey solar provider, is pleased to announce the completion of a new utility scale solar project for Santee Cooper. The ground mounted solar array is located on 5.4 acres at the Interstate 26 and Highway 601 interchange, and it is visible from I-26. The installation utilizes 4,482 solar panels to generate an annual production of 2,261 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean renewable energy, enough to power 163 average South Carolina households.

“It has been great working with Santee Cooper on the Jamison Solar Farm project. This project helps advance the efforts of Santee Cooper to reduce energy costs for its customers and to increase their use of renewable energy resources.” said Don Zimmerman, President/CEO of Alder Energy.

Santee Cooper offers a comprehensive Green Power Program, where the customers can choose cleaner power resources which, when efficiently used, can save money and the environment. This green power is electricity that Santee Cooper generates from renewable resources, like wind, solar and landfill gas. Santee Cooper Green Power helps preserve the environment, reduces demand on our non-renewable natural resources and increases our energy independence.

“We’re excited to have another renewable energy project feeding electricity to the grid,” said Marc Tye, Santee Cooper executive vice president and COO. “This solar farm will be an asset year-round, and particularly in the summer. The flatter fixed tilt of the panels at Jamison allows us to maximize its energy production to coincide with summer afternoon peaks.”

Green Power is Green-e Energy certified, and meets the environmental and consumer-protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions. Santee Cooper’s Green Power generating portfolio includes six landfill generating stations, four solar arrays and one wind turbine.
